Though I managed to salvage the blob issue, it was a quick fix and not the best recommended way to handle file uploads. It is best practice to have the file system handle uploaded files and then just keep the file paths in the database for retrieval later.
Saving files as blobs in the database results in your database growing exponentially, backups start to take longer and longer. This also starts to affect retrieval as opening that table start to take longer and slows the system.
A long term fix will be achieved in two steps. First is converting the existing files in the database back to files and saving them in a folder with relevant paths retained the database, second is to save new files directly to the designated folder and similarly save their paths to the database.
